LCP VS the Bodyguard is a close competition; both are excellent little .380 options. In my opinion the LCP has the advantage of lighter weight, ergonomic grip and melting of the hard corners. The Bodyguard benefits from an excellent set of sights, and hardy design with a functional slide lock. I like both designs but shoot the BG380 much better, which is due to the sights and trigger break characteristics. The BG380 does have a manual safety which I'm not a fan of but am glad to see that is very low profile and snag free. I like both of these little guns, and feel they are hard to beat as a light weight true EDC option. Yes a .380 is not my preferred caliber for social work but youtube is filled with EDC videos which showcase excellent guns as "EDC" weapons and I have yet to meet any CCW holder that I know carrying a Glock 35, 22, or 23, or even the famed 1911 "daily" and that means every day. It ain't the best choice in most situations. And yet the .380 is chosen probably more often than it should be for concealed carry defensive use. It remains an underpowered caliber compared to the 9m and especially the .40 S&W. However sometimes SAWC will dictate its selection as a primary armament. Perhaps in the POUs of backup, survival kit option, "T-shirt and shorts," "super carry" gun (discussed), or in other systems where ultra-concealability is needed, the .380 serves well. You are much better served with IT than without anything at all. But in terms of ergonomics, power factor, and especially economy, it's comes in a distant second to a well-designed sub-compact 9mm option like the KelTec PF9, Ruger LC9, Walther PPS, Kahr PM9, and several others. These guns weigh more than most compact .380 options but still give extreme comfort in their carry (the most important attribute which will decide if you have your gun or not when you need it!). For a little extra weight, you get a lot more performance. At 15 oz for example, the excellent KelTec PF9 offers superior ergonomics, sight radius, grip, power, improved firepower, and in some cases better reliability. And yet it's just as thin and easy to carry as most .380s. Look carefully at your choice of .380 as a primary armament. It's expensive but to many it will be worth it. The outstanding Sig P238 achieves high levels of portability and performance with its slim 14 ounce carry weight (empty). It makes an excellent backup gun for an officer or a primary and comfortable-to-carry gun for a CCW holder. For 1911 afficionados, it offers the exact same battery of arms which could simplify training. In some ways, the Sig P238 resurrects the defunct Colt Mustang design, a gun that was also very small, lightweight, and comfortable in carry. However a Colt Mustang this gun is not: it's much more reliable and its performance is a testament to proper R&D achieved by Sig Sauer. In about 250+ rounds of fire, we found the little P238 to be extremely accurate, comfortable and fun to shoot, and totally reliable with both PMC, Winchester USA FMJ, and 90 gr Federal Hydrashok loads. Few .380s achieve such performance without break-in straight from the box (except perhaps the excellent Walther PPK, another .380 favorite) and impressed us. The ergonomics are excellent with well placed controls, no sharp edges, good looking and high traction aluminum grips, excellent Tritium-dot night sights, and a well-placed mag release. Firepower, like in most subcompact .380s is limited to 6+1 but the gun reloads fast. The single action trigger adequately smooth, consistent, and helps achieve the impressive accuracy. Field strip and maintenance on the P238, as shown, is fast and simple which again is unusual for some .380 designs ...
